Business movers: People starting new jobs in Ireland

Here is a selection of people starting new roles with RTÉ, Tallaght University Hospital, Banking & Payments Federation Ireland, dmg media Ireland, University College Dublin and Mason Hayes & Curran.
David Crean has been appointed as the new head of drama with RTÉ, Ireland’s national broadcaster. He is responsible for a slate of original Irish drama which this year promises to deliver 142 hours of homegrown storytelling. He joined RTÉ as a development executive in the drama department in 2007. Currently working as RTÉ's Acting Head of Drama, David has developed and executive produced with a range of co-production partners a slate of successful drama series, such as Taken Down, Hidden Assets, Smother, The Gone, KIN and The Boy That Never Was. David also developed all five series of Love/Hate with Stuart Carolan and Steve Matthews.
Barbara Keogh Dunne has been appointed as chief executive of Tallaght University Hospital. She succeeds Lucy Nugent, who is now CEO to Children’s Health Ireland. A registered general nurse, Barbara has held senior clinical and executive roles at Beaumont Hospital, notably as head of patient flow and head of access. Most recently, she was general manager of Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown. As well as her nursing qualifications she has an advanced diploma in Medical Law, diploma in Finance for Non-Financial Managers, Masters in Education & Training, a degree in Nursing Management, a diploma in Strategy & Innovation and a Higher National Diploma in Front Line Management.
Billy Kane, founder and chief executive of Finance Ireland, has been appointed to the board of Banking & Payments Federation Ireland (BPFI) for a two-year tenure. Billy has almost five decades of experience in financial services. He founded Finance Ireland, now the largest nonbank lender in Ireland, in 2002 which operates in commercial property lending, motor finance, asset-backed lending and agri-finance. Prior to this, he founded Irish Permanent finance in the early 1990s and went on to become CEO of Irish Permanent and director of Irish Life & Permanent. “I look forward to contributing my experience to the board, particularly from the non-bank lending sector,” he said.
Lisa Cannon has been appointed a head of studio with dmg media Ireland, home to Mail Online Ireland, Rollercoaster.ie and Evoke. She will lead dmg’s video, audio and studio production unit, based at the dmg media hub at Haddington Road in Dublin. Cannon began her career in New York on HBO’s ‘Sex and the City’ and contributed to films including ‘King Arthur’ and Channel 4 documentary ‘I Killed John Lennon’. She was also the anchor of ‘Xposé’ on Virgin Media, interviewing Hollywood stars for a decade. She also created, executive produced and hosted ‘Box Office’ on Virgin Media for several years, as well as hosting the digital series ‘Spotlight’.
Liam Cronin has been appointed as University College Dublin’s first director of innovation to drive innovation, entrepreneurship and commercialisation of research outputs, delivered via NovaUCD. Liam was formerly CEO of the RDI Hub in Killorglin, Co Kerry, which opened in 2020. Liam was commercial director at ADAPT, the Research Ireland Centre for AI-driven digital content technology at TCD. He has also held senior executive roles with Microsoft in Ireland and Western Europe. Liam has a BSc in Financial Information Systems from TCD, a BSc in Public Administration/Management from UL, a masters and Diploma in Product Management from TUD, and a diploma in Computer Science from UL.
Andrew Gill has been promoted to partner with law firm Mason Hayes & Curran, as part of the expansion of its DCM, structured finance and derivatives team. He advises on debt, structured finance and derivatives transactions. He has worked in private practice and in-house. He recently acted for a US-based client in establishing a European exchange-traded programme offering exposure to crypto assets, advising at the leading edge of the market. Andrew is a graduate of UCD and is qualified in Ireland, England and Wales. “My focus is on helping clients move quickly, with advice that’s clear, practical, and reflects where the market is right now,” he said.
